Halloween in the USA

In October, Halloween appears everywhere!  Stores sell special candy and costumes, restaurants sell Halloween food, and special shows appear on television.

Children love to dress up in costumes.  Some traditional costumes include ghosts, witches, werewolves, vampires, black cats.  Kids also like to dress up like cartoon characters and role models.  Some examples include insects, princesses, and ninjas.

People love to buy Halloween candy.  Some candies are chocolate like Hershey's, Crunch bars, Snickers, Kit Kats, Milky Ways, and M&M's.  Other candies include Warheads, lollipops, gum, Lemonheads, jawbreaker, gummies, and Skittles.  There are also special candies only sold at Halloween.  They are candy corn and carmel apples.  Many foods get special packaging in black and orange for the holiday.

Children love to go trick or treating.  They go from house to house asking for candy.  There is a famous poem they love to say.

Trick or treat,
Smell my feet,
Give me something good to eat!

Families like to carve pumpkins and decorate their houses, too.  That's what we do in the USA for Halloween!

We look forward to learning more about Dia de los Muertos!

(We apologize for our tardiness.  Our last Spanish lesson was cancelled due to change in field trip plans.  We were hoping to write some of it in Spanish during that lesson, too.  We'd love to work with you again!)

P.S. We heard that you have iPads.  What do you use them for?
